II Timothy 2:15 - Study
to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
AWANA CLUBS (Charter 8537)
Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Q. What is AWANA?
A. AWANA is a non-denominational, non-profit, youth program started
more than 50 years ago in the Chicago area. It has spread throughout
the USA and the world.
In 1982, AWANA expanded to Havasu. It is a program that combines
the fun of scouting with memorization of the life-changing Word
of God.
AWANA is from Paul's second letter to Timothy, chapter 2, verse
15: "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed."
AWANA proclaims the truth found in John 3:16: "For God so
loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever
believeth in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
Q. Who sponsors this AWANA Club?
A. The Havasu Alliance Church sponsors Charter 8537. We
are a Bible-believing church which belongs to The Christian and
Missionary Alliance organization. We cooperate and have workers
from other like-minded churches that help us fulfill this program.
Q. Why do we do this?
A. As believers in Jesus Christ, we think it is important to know
Jesus as Savior, to learn to love Him in obedience, to serve Him
in ministry, and to proclaim Him to all who need to know the gospel
of Jesus Christ.
Q. Why should you be interested in AWANA?
A. AWANA is a great youth program that helps accomplish the goal
of reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and to train
them to serve Him. AWANA provides a peer group for youth that is
bringing them together around Christian principle. More importantly,
it instills moral values by encouraging them to hide God's Word
in their heart. It gives the parents a way to be involved with their
children by helping memorize their verses.
Q. How can the AWANA program benefit your child?
A. The AWANA program can be an aid to parents in the spiritual
training of your child. We make every effort to make studying God's
Word interesting and exciting. Our goal is to help your child apply
what they learn to their personal life.
We can best help you with that training if you encourage your
child to recite their material to you before club. We are confident
that God's Word will make an imprint upon the character of each
person who receives it into their life.
Q. Who is involved in AWANA?
A. "Clubbers" are children ages three through eighteen
who participate with other children their own age. Parents, relatives
and friends of Clubbers are always welcome as guests or helpers.
There is a place for you and your children/grandchildren/neighbors.
Q. Which club serves each age child?
A. There are eight clubs in total, but some clubs have been combined
to accommodate balancing club sizes.

Q. How much does it cost to join AWANA?
A. "First-time guests" are encouraged and are always
welcome at no charge. The dues structure considers family size and
rewards families who help with AWANA as either a leader or helper.
Dues are used to pay for awards and prizes for Clubbers.
There are no dues to National AWANA. Dues will be prorated for
those who join after the first of November.
Some scholarship help is available for those with a financial need.
Please see the Commander or Pastor for details. No Clubber is turned
away because of race, color, or need.
Fundraisers for special events like scholarship camp each summer
or expenses for out-of-town trips or competition are held as needed.
Q. When do Clubbers meet?
A. Our clubs meet Tuesday nights, beginning in early September
and ending in early May. We formally open club at 6:30 and close
at 8 pm. Occasionally, the older Clubbers will meet for special
activities arranged with their director and leaders. Parents are
always notified of official activities other than Tuesdays. There
will be no club on these holidays: Christmas, New Year's, and Spring
Break.
Q. Where does AWANA meet?
A. We currently meet at the Havasu Christian and Missionary Alliance
Church, in the facilities of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3130
Chemehuevi Boulevard (at Thunderbolt) in Lake Havasu.
Q. How does AWANA operate?
A. Everyone involved with our club is a dedicated volunteer. Tax-deductible
donations are accepted.
Other churches with no particular youth program of their own often
send or allow their children to attend our club. They will sometimes
help us with offerings. Community gifts are welcome, but rare. Therefore,
we "charge" dues.
Q. What else is expected of Clubbers?
A. We expect Clubbers to take part as fully as possible in as
positive a way as possible. Once they qualify to wear uniforms,
Clubbers should be in proper uniform each night.
Modest in dress is also important. For example, shorts should
have at least a six-inch inseam. Tank tops or tube tops are discouraged.
The Commander will talk with Clubbers and parents as needed to maintain
the dress code.
Because Clubbers take part in "game time" outdoors,
we recommend that shoes instead of sandals be worn. During winter
months when the sun sets during club, flashlights would help to
and from game time.
